Susan Marais has been involved in figure skating for almost forty years. Having competed as a National skater for South Africa, she received her Springbok Colours in 1986 for being selected to represent South Africa at the South African Games. The South African Games, in some years called the South African Open Games, was a multi-sport event held in South Africa during the apartheid era, in response to the country’s exclusion from the Olympic Games.
Retiring from competitive skating in 1989, Susan has been coaching all levels of figure skaters from beginners to skaters qualifying for Four Continents and World Championship events. She has a Diploma in Sports Management, and is currently receiving her certification for Strength and Conditioning from ISSA (International Sports Science Association) in USA.
Susan Marais received her Protea colours for coaching from SASCOC (South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee) in 2000. She is the Chairman of the SAFSCC (South African Figure Skaters coaches Commission); a committee member of the NTC (National Technical Committee, and was intimately involved in constructing the LTPD (Long Term Participant Development) Program in South Africa.
Susan is a Flexafit certified instructor since 2017.
