Want to begin off-ice training for you or your skater but don’t know where to start?

Our 8-week FLEXAFIT Adult Skater Fundamentals curriculum is designed for you based on 4 FLEXAFIT Pillars:

  • Spin & Edges
  • Jumps & Plyometric
  • Strength & Conditioning
  • Flexibility & Mobility

Guided through this framework, you will learn and practice off-ice skills through warm-up exercises, stretches, drills, technique class, and games. Each FLEXAFIT Pillar has designated skills that are broken down into six progressions to help students from basic understanding to mastery.

You will receive skill tracking feedback and updates through FLEXAFIT’s skill tracking software, so that you/your parents can keep track of your progress.

The curriculum is fast-paced, detailed, and most of all–a fun way to get skaters excited to begin their off-ice journey!

FLEXAFIT Fundamentals Pillars

Spin & Edges

FLEXAFIT’s Spin & Edge pillar instructs students about proper blade use, weight transfer, and body alignment during edges, turns, and spins. Skaters will practice basic skating moves and turns and forward and backward upright, sit, and camel spins. This class focuses on mastering solid technique in the basic turns and spins so that skaters have a strong foundation when progressing to more complex turns and spins.

Jump & Plyometric

FLEXAFIT’s Jump & Plyometric pillar teaches students proper jump technique, starting from alignment and positioning in the jump take-off, rotation and in air position, and landing. Skaters also also practice progressive plyometric exercises that will challenge and improve vertical height and distance in their jumps. All of the jumps–waltz/axel, salchow, toe loop, loop, flip, and lutz, will be taught to the students and practiced at the appropriate level of difficulty.

Strength & Conditioning

FLEXAFIT’s Strength & Conditioning pillar helps skaters build their athletic skills: strength, agility, alignment and body awareness, balance, coordination, and endurance. Students are taught essential bodyweight exercises, such as squats, planks, and pushups, with detailed instruction on how to safely perform the exercise with proper technique. Each exercise is broken down into six individual progressions so that students can experience workouts that are individually tailored to their appropriate strength level.

Flexibility & Mobility

FLEXAFIT’s Flexibility & Mobility class teaches alignment and breathing techniques while developing the flexibility and mobility that is essential for skater’s success and injury prevention on the ice. Students will be safely guided through body mobilization exercises and stretches that are tailored to improve skating positions such as spirals, Y spins, laybacks, and spread eagles. Students will also be mentored on how to listen to their bodies in order to stretch safely and prevent injuries.

Logistics and Equipment

Each class will run for 60-minutes, and will cover two of the four FLEXAFIT pillars, alternating week to week. If you would like to progress more quickly, you are encouraged to sign up for two classes a week in order to practice each pillar once a week in class.

Classes are run on Zoom, and the link to the class will be sent to prior to the class starting. You need a good video connection to be able to see the instructor and the instructor can see you.
