FLEXAFIT CURRICULUM

For Parents

We know getting started in this sport can be daunting. Here are the top three things you need to do before signing your child up for lessons

Check the coach

Look for a coach with proper credentials, a positive approach, and a track record of safe, effective instruction.

Look for a Club

Choose a well-structured, welcoming club that prioritizes safety, fundamentals, and proper development.

Connect with others

Talk to other parents and skaters to gain insights, feel supported, and understand the community culture.

Understanding the FLEXAFIT Methodology™

At FLEXAFIT, everything we do is built on the FLEXAFIT Methodology™ — a structured approach that connects on-ice technique with the off-ice training required for real progress.

Many skaters follow all the right steps — they have a coach, belong to a club, and train consistently — but still feel stuck.

This is because progress in figure skating is not just about how much you train, but how you train.

Why this matters

Repetition alone does not create progress.  If a movement pattern is incorrect, repeating it reinforces the issue.

The FLEXAFIT Methodology™ focuses on identifying the root cause of technical breakdowns and correcting it through a system that integrates:

– Alignment and body positioning

– Strength and power development

– Mobility and flexibility

– Skating-specific movement patterns

– Direct transfer from off-ice to on-ice performance

How to use this page

The resources below are designed to help you apply this approach:

– Training guidelines show how much and what to train

– The path to success outlines how to structure progress

– Level comparisons help you understand where your skater fits

Together, they create a clear, structured path forward.

Use the guidelines below to apply the FLEXAFIT Methodology™ to your skater’s training.

Off-Ice Training Guidelines by Age

Kid skaters (5-8 years)

  • Recommended off ice training 1-2, 30 min sessions per week
  • Skaters start to learn proper warm-up and cool-down exercises and focus on physical literacy

Youth skaters (9-12 years )

  • Recommended off ice training 3-4, 30-45 min sessions per week
  • Off ice training should incorporate: warm-up, strength & conditioning, off-ice jumps, ballet/dance, flexibility, and cool-down

Adult skaters

  • Recommended off ice training 3-4, 30-45 min sessions per week
  • Skaters learn proper warm-up and cool-down exercises and focus on injury prevention, building a solid understanding of alignment, hip/core strength, and learning progressions for all six jumps

Competitive skaters of any age

  • Recommended off ice training 5-6 days per week
  • At this time skaters should focus solely on figure skating specific training
